Important Update on Student Fees

May 1, 2023

Dear Shaw Bears:

Shaw University’s Board of Trustees recently approved the University’s comprehensive fee schedule for the 2023-24 academic year. The annual price for tuition, housing, food, and fees will increase by 5% from $23,354 to $24,522. This is an important update, as the University has not increased its rates since Academic Year 2013-2014. For 10 years, our rates have remained flat while inflation has risen an average of 3% for the same period – and increased to 6.6% since 2021. We have maintained the previous rates by focusing on controlling our costs. This rate increase will allow us to maintain our service levels and commitment to our students.

The specific amounts for each component of our comprehensive fee for the 2023-24 academic year will be:

Tuition:     $ 12,400
Housing:$ 4,040
Food:     $ 4,900
Mandatory Fees:$ 3,182
Total:     $ 24,522

We are mindful of the effects that the continued economic climate may have on our students and their families. As you begin to plan for the 2023-2024 Academic Year, I encourage you to visit the Admissions & Financial Aid webpage and the fee increase FAQs on our website listed below.

You may also email Student Accounts at sa@shawu.edu and Financial Aid at financialaid@shawu.edu if you have further questions.

If you are citizen of the United States and you or your student has not completed the 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) we encourage you to visit www.studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to begin your financial aid process.

Through prudent fiscal management, we are committed to continuing to provide the highest quality education to our students, preparing them to be global leaders in the 21st century.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Shaw University.

Sincerely,

David H. Byrd CPA
Vice President Finance and Administration
