Dear Shaw Community,
As we continue to enjoy our holiday break, we have watched with great concern the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in our communities and nationally. The State of North Carolina is reporting the highest daily number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. We have also experienced the impact of the pandemic in our Shaw family. As such, the university has revised some of its plans for the beginning of Spring 2022 semester to protect the health of our campus and community as well as to ensure the continuity of campus operations:
- Campus will open on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, with staff returning Tuesday, January 4, 2022, and faculty returning Wednesday, January 5, 2022
- Classes will begin as scheduled, Wednesday January 12, 2022, however hybrid and in-person classes will be REMOTE via ZOOM beginning Wednesday, January 12, 2022, through Friday, January 28, 2022. In-person instruction will resume Monday, January 31, 2022
- All on-campus students must move-in by appointment
- New and Transfer Students will report for residence hall move-in on January 28, 2022
- Returning Students will report for residence hall move-in on January 29 and 30, 2022
- All (on and off campus) students must upload a copy of a negative PCR Covid test dated 3-5 days prior to your return/move-in
- Mandatory campus covid testing will resume February 1, 2022 for all students
- Mandatory campus covid testing will resume for faculty and staff on January 10, 2022
- Booster shots are mandatory. Faculty and Staff will be required to present proof of a booster shot by Friday Feb 18, 2022. Additional information will be forthcoming regarding Booster shot requirements and campus Booster clinics
- Ongoing safety protocols include wearing masks in both indoor and outdoor areas, frequent hand washing, and social distancing
- All campus events scheduled during January must be canceled or held virtually. Fans and Spectators will not be able to attend athletic games on campus
- The University campus is closed until further notice to everyone other than faculty, staff, students, and approved vendors
This is an uncertain time for all of us and we will overcome this latest challenge, making decisions with the best information we have which may mean quick and disruptive changes, warranted in response to campus, local and national conditions.
We look forward to a successful Spring semester, and a safe, healthy, and bountiful New Year for all of us. We again thank you for your resilience, determination, and collaborative spirit in the face of these unexpected challenges. Take good care.
Sincerely,
