On June 3, 2021, President Paulette Dillard welcomed Congresswoman Deborah Ross for a campus tour of Shaw University and a roundtable discussion.
On the tour Rep. Ross and President Dillard were joined by Dean Valerie Ann Johnson and Dean Lynette Wood as they discussed important initiates for both the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities and the School of Business and Professional Studies.
During the roundtable, Dr. Dillard, members of her Executive Cabinet, and Rep. Ross discussed the recent funding provided by the American Rescue Plan. Through the American Rescue Plan, Shaw received over $5 million dollars. In addition, the group discussed proposed funding through the Institutional Grants for New Infrastructure, Technology, and Education (IGNITE) HBCU Excellence Act. Members of the Shaw University SGA also took part with the congressional visit.
Congresswoman Ross took office in January 2021 and is now the representative for District Two where Shaw University is located. She replaced Rep. David Price because of redistricting.
