A PROCLAMATION OF DISTINCTION, COMMENDATION,TRIBUTE AND HONOR FOR REVEREND C.T. VIVIAN

WHEREAS, Reverend C.T. Vivian was born on July 30, 1924 in Howard County, Missouri, was reared in Macomb, Illinois, attended Western Illinois University where he received a B.A. degree in Education, and is a graduate of the American Baptist Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, he was named National Director of Affiliates of the Southern Leadership Conference (S.C.L.C.) by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1963, served as a strategist, and became its National President in 2012; and

WHEREAS, he served as Chaplin and Dean of the Shaw University Divinity School in 1972, and established a Seminary Without Walls, an innovative national level program that was designed for minister training in 1974 that incorporated distance learning in theological education.
