Statement on Raleigh Mass Shooting

On behalf of President Paulette Dillard and the entire Shaw University Community, we thank the many friends who are concerned about us – and who reached out to share their thoughts and prayers with the greater Raleigh, North Carolina, community during this time. Indeed, our hearts go out to the victims of Thursday’s mass shooting. Tragic events such as this leave the entire community shaken; and we join in solidarity with those across our beloved city who are touched by this tragedy and grieving in the wake of its profound sadness. To aid in our collective healing and reflection, we are asking ministers from the Shaw University Divinity School to be in prayer as we pray for an end to senseless gun violence and seek God’s path forward from heartbreak to healing and hope. In addition, Shaw University’s Thomas J. Boyd Chapel welcomes you for community prayer today, Friday, October 14, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In God’s Peace,
Dr. Gregory M. Howard
Dean, Shaw University Divinity School
